Assisted reproductive technologies include ovarian stimulation in the majority of the cases. In the recent years, experience accumulated in the treatment of infertile couples led to the individualization of ovarian stimulation protocols. Every patient needs to be treated according to strategies developed with the help of basic science research devoted to a better understanding of ovarian physiology. This symposium therefore includes basic science and clinical experience.
In the basic part we would like to summarize the knowledge on factors influencing oocytes chromosomal contents. The methods used to analyse oocyte quality will be presented including PCR, Pre-implantation genetic screening and classical morphology. The oocyte quality in PCOS patients will be discussed. Recent data on gene expression analysis in oocyte and cumulus cell and the possible role of stimulation agent on imprinting defect will be presented.
In the clinical section, the recent data on ovarian reserve assessment with specific lectures on AMH and antral follicle count standardization will be given. In PCOS patients, the interests of metformin will be discussed. The other aspects discussed during the symposium will be: the possible use of androgen to enhance ovarian response, recent data on a scientific approach to choose a starting dose in controlled ovarian stimulation,the ineterest of LH addition in ovarian stimulation, the indication and results of mild stimulation regimen, prevention technique of OHSS and recent progress on oocytes freezing results
OBJECTIVES
After attending this conference, the participants will have an updated knowledge on:
- The main methods to analyse oocyte quality and genetic contents;
- The influence of PCOS on oocyte quality, the androgen and folliculogenesis in PCOS patients and the potential interest of androgens in ovarian stimulation;
- Ovarian reserve tests use, in particular for AMH and Antral Follicle Count;
- Mild stimulation regimen, choosing the stimulation starting dose, adding LH in ovarian stimulation and recent methods to prevent OHSS;
- The recent developments in oocyte freezing, oocyte gene expression analysis and gene imprinting defect.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Clinicians, as well as embryologists, basic scientists, residents and fellows in the field of reproductive medicine, will benefit from the conference.
Serono Symposia International Foundation (www.seronosymposia.org) will submit this program “Regulation of Follicle Development and its Clinical Implications” (May 23-24, 2008 – Beaune, France) for accreditation by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME) and by the Italian Ministry of Health.
