Reproductive Medicine – compared with other medical specialties – has made tremendous advances in the field of quality management: in particular, for the ART laboratory, several professional associations and laboratory organizations have already framed and published standards and guidelines. Different QM have been put in place however the systems that followed the manuals of the International Standardization Organization (ISO 9000 manual series) became the most popular standard.
This symposium will bring together many of the people who have pioneered the introduction of formal Quality Management Systems into ART, in order to provide the audience with an in-depth understanding of concepts, standard requirements and procedures which need to be implemented in order to achieve certification and/or accreditation of IVF unit or laboratory respectively. This symposium will provide a mix of presentations, discussions, and workshops, from top-level physicians, embryologists, nurses, and counselors.
OBJECTIVES
At the end of this two day symposium participants will be able to:
- Define the principles of Quality Management and the different systems currently available to achieve Total Quality Management status for an ART clinic, including ISO 9001:2000 for clinical management and EN17025 for the IVF laboratory.
- Estimate the benefits that Total Quality Management brings to the ART clinic.
- Recognize the complex components of ART and the importance of teamwork in achieving a successful clinic
- Create the motivation and confidence to inspire team collaboration towards TQM implementation.

All healthcare professionals who have an interest in the implementation of Quality Management in an ART clinic and seek the necessary background and information for its execution.
