The goal of this program was to provide physicians, experienced REI nurses, pharmacists, and other healthcare practitioners involved in Reproductive Medicine with the genetic basis of several disorders that cause male factor infertility. With this foundation, the practitioner will be able to counsel couples as to possibilities of transmission to their offspring.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this program, the participant will be able to:
- Describe the basic spermatogenic process.
- Construct a diagram of the Y chromosome and its spermatogenesis regions.
- Coherently synthesize the clinical and genetic aspects of Congenital Bilateral Absence of the Vas Deferens.
- Interpret the consequences of a Y chromosomal microdeletion.
- Devise a genetic diagnostic plan for each of the entities discussed.
