JAY BALTZ

Jay Baltz is currently a Senior Scientist and Associate Director of the Ottawa Health Research Institute, and Professor and Associate Chair of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Ottawa.  He currently serves as Director of the Program on Oocyte Health, a Strategic Initiative of the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR), and is a member of the Institute Advisory Board of the CIHR Institute of Human Development, Child and Youth Health. Dr. Baltz received his BA in Physics from the University of Pennsylvania and PhD in Biophysics from The Johns Hopkins University.  His postdoctoral training was in Dr. John Biggers’s laboratory at Harvard, where he investigated early embryo physiology. Dr. Baltz’s current research interests are in transport processes, cell volume regulation, and other homeostatic mechanisms in growing and maturing oocytes and preimplantation embryos, and their role in producing healthy oocytes and embryos.
