The aim of this symposium was to produce a highly scientific and interesting programme covering the three factors that are thought to contribute to MS: environmental factors, genetic susceptibility, and immunological response.
Having examined these three factors we then focused on how this knowledge is being applied to new treatment avenues.
OBJECTIVES
After attending this conference participants were able to:
- Review the roles of the environment, genetics and immune response in MS;
- Review the role of viral and bacterial infections in MS;
- Discuss MS pathology, the identification of key molecular targets, and recent insights from genetic studies;
- Review the latest clinical data and evaluate the role of DMDs in the management of MS;
- Examine the broader concept of treatment optimization including monitoring and maintenance of treatment effects;
- Review future therapeutic options and their place within the MS treatment paradigm.
