A satellite symposium held during the 19th ENS (European Neurological Society) Meeting
The increasing knowledge on the pathogenesis and genetics of neurodegenerative disorders are showing that despite the categorization into a general definition, the disease patterns are very different one from another. In some case, the differences are so marked that it can support the hypothesis that each neurodegenerative disorder includes a cluster of disease. The aim of the symposium is to summarize evidences this approach is based on and stimulate the discussion.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
At the end of this symposium participants will have:
- The genetic knowledge this new approach to neurodegenerative disease classification is based on.
- A perspective of future trends in research aimed to clarify if neurodegenerative disorders are single or multiple diseases.
- Awareness of possible consequences that these new classifications can have on neurodegenerative diseases practical management.
TARGET AUDIENCE
Scientists, clinicians, biologists, working in the field of neurology, will benefit from this symposium.
Serono Symposia International Foundation (www.seronosymposia.org) will submit this program “Alzheimer, Parkinson, Multiple Sclerosis: role of genes” (June 21, 2009 – Milan, Italy) for accreditation by the Royal College of Physician, London, UK and the Italian Ministry of Health.
