This meeting is designed to improve the working knowledge and skills of clinicians treating patients with multiple sclerosis (MS). The programme will address the extent to which genetic and environmental factors influence the course of the disease and influence the therapies developed to manage it. MS pathology, diagnosis, and disease-modifying drugs (DMDs) will also be discussed, as will the use of treatment algorithms for treatment optimisation. This 2-day symposium follows a meeting on a related theme held in Paris in January 2004.
OBJECTIVES
The principal objectives of the meeting are to:
- review the role of the environment versus genetics in MS
- review the latest clinical data and evaluate the role of DMDs in the management of MS
- examine the broader concept of treatment optimisation, including monitoring and maintenance of treatment effects
- discuss MS pathology, the role of DMDs and their mechanisms of action in targeting disease activity.
