This structured course for physicians and allied health professionals examined the main aspects of MS detection and treatment. The course reviewed ‘the state of the art’ for MS therapy and clarified the role of clinical trials in testing potential therapies. It stressed the benefits of new diagnostic tools for defining the natural history of MS and disease activity monitoring. Current diagnostic criteria and treatment for MS was also reviewed in the light of new medical evidence.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course the participant was able to:

  • Review the ‘state of the art’ in the therapeutic field of MS, with particular reference to new neuroprotective, immuno-modulating and anti-inflammatory drugs.
  • Specify the design and pitfalls of clinical studies in MS.
  • Explain the current state of the definition of new treatment options for MS.
