MS Academia - Multiple Sclerosis Advanced Course 2007

This is an educational programme created to encourage the dissemination of scientific knowledge in the field of MS. It will stress the benefits of new diagnostic tools for defining the natural history of MS and disease activity monitoring.  Current diagnostic criteria for MS will also be reviewed in the light of new medical evidence.  A review of recent clinical trials and treatment optimisation guidelines will also be presented.

OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this course the participant will be able to:

  • Explain the current diagnostic criteria for MS, and the possible extensions.
  • Assess the importance of genetic risk factors versus environmental triggers in the development of MS.
  • Describe the benefits of new diagnostic tools, such as MRI or biological markers, in defining the natural history of MS and monitoring disease activity.
  • Demonstrate competency in the basic concepts of treatment optimisation.

TARGET AUDIENCE    

This programme is appropriate for all clinicians and scientists who are interested in Multiple Sclerosis.
