To discuss recent developments in the field of Growth Hormone and somatic growth, such as:
- The basic mechanisms involved in the neuropeptide-gene expression;
- Pituitary cell development including their alterations in disease states and pituitary stem-cells;
- Molecular taxonomy of growth-hormone effects and new therapeutic indications;
- The significance of IGF-1 and its binding proteins in health and disease.
OBJECTIVES
After the conclusion of this conference, the participants were familiar with:
- The regulation of growth hormone synthesis and secretion
- The relationship between growth hormone and metabolic status
- Basic mechanisms involved in somatotroph cell development
- Newer approaches for the understanding of somatotroph cell biology and GH actions.
- The characterization of pituitary stem cells and the use of micro arrays
- Biological consequences of GH-IGF-1 alterations and new therapeutic indications of GH
