Barcelona, Spain
December 12 - December 13, 2008
The genetics of pathophysiological mechanisms underlying several severe autoimmune diseases has been evaluated in last few years both through genomewide and linkage studies. There is accumulating evidence that genetic factors influence immune system functions and modulate inflammatory response in patients affected by these disorders. The findings emerging from some of these researches could clarify common and specific patterns of inflammation in autoimmune diseases driven by genes and should propose new targets for pharmacological treatments. At this point of the evolution of knowledge, it is indispensable for researchers and clinicians to share information as well as experiences and interact.
The aim of this congress is to provide a forum where researchers and/or clinicians who address the problematics involved in the treatment of autoimmune diseases affecting different systems and tissues, may gather to review their respective experiences and acquire new knowledge that can assist in the identification of common aspects, as well as pathologic differences, to assist reaching optimal and innovative therapeutic approaches.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After attending this conference, the participants will have an updated knowledge on:
- Methodological issues and solutions in studies on genetics/immune system interactions
- Interaction between genetics and the immune system
- Outcomes of major genomewide studies performed in autoimmune diseases
- Outcomes major linkage studies performed in autoimmune diseases
- Pharmacogenomics in Multiple Sclerosis
- Stratification of approaches according to pharmacogenomics
- Methodological issues and solutions in pharmacogenetic studies
TARGET AUDIENCE
Attendants will include geneticists, immunologists, neurologists, rheumatologists, gastroenterologists and dermatologists, with the goal of sharing the various approaches to the understanding of the genetic of these diseases and the advances in pharmacogenetic of autoimmune diseases.
Serono Symposia International Foundation (www.seronosymposia.org) will submit this program “Genetics of Autoimmune Diseases” (Barcelona, Spain, December 12,13 - 2008) for accreditation by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME), and the Italian Ministry of Health (reference number 13776-8042203).
