Psoriasis is a chronic life-ruining disease with significant unmet clinical need in the management of patients. It effects between 1%-3% of the population worldwide and is accompanied by substantial physical and psychosocial distress. Traditional approaches are problematic for long-term use because of inconvenience, organ toxicity, broad-band immunosuppression, drug interactions and a loss of efficacy over time.
A new generation of drugs are demanded that are more convenient, effective, safe and immunologically selective. Numerous biological agents acting on T-cell and cytokines through various mechanism of actions have been developed for the treatment of psoriasis. Delegates will have updated knowledge about the management of psoriasis with biological agents as an alternative therapy.
This Symposium will be held before the EADV 2008 Congress.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
After participating in this symposium, the participants will have an updated knowledge in:
- Recent evolution of psoriasis management
- The role of traditional systemic therapies
- Different mechanism of action of treatments
- Psoriasis management with TNF-blockers and T-cell modulators
- Integration of biological treatments into daily clinical practice
- Future developments in psoriasis
TARGET AUDIENCE
Clinicians and scientists involved in the management of psoriasis will benefit from the symposium.
Serono Symposia International Foundation (www.seronosymposia.org) will submit this programme “A New Era in Management of Psoriasis” (Istanbul, Turkey 22 May 2008) for accreditation by the European Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (EACCME).
