Objective

SKINnovation 2008 is a new initiative of Serono Symposia International Foundation designed to support the research activities of young researchers specialists in Dermatology and working in Italy.

Serono Symposia International Foundation (SSIF) is a non-profit organisation with headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland, and its representative office in Rome. It was founded with the aim of identifying the most innovative achievements and potential developments of medical and scientific research, supporting and spreading the latter through conventions, conferences, training courses, publications, interactive material and also by making scholarships available. In particular it provides education for doctors and professionals in the medical field by organising events of the highest scientific level which are part of the continuing medical educational programmes.

Eligibility

Applications will be accepted  on the basis of the following criteria:

  • The candidate must be the first author of a publication (surname) in dermatology
  • The applicant must submit an article published during 2006/2007 in a scientific journal with impact factor
  • The candidate must be resident in Italy and conduct his/her primary activities in Italy
  • The candidate must not be older than 35 years of age at the time of publication or the acceptance of publication
  • Unpublished manuscripts are also considered valid if the publication has been accepted during 2007. In this case, the article must be submitted together with the document of acceptance of the publishers.

Evaluation Committee

A group of experts in the field of Dermatology will compose the Award Committee, appointed to examine the documents presented and select the winners.

The Commission will be composed of:

  • Prof. Mario Aricò, Italy - Chairman of the Italian Society of Dermatology medical, surgical, aesthetic and Sexually Transmitted Diseases (SIDeMaST)
  • Prof.. Alberto Giannetti, Italy - President of the European Academy of Dermatology and Venereology (EADV)
  • Dr. Patrizio Mulas, Italy - Chairman of the Italian Hospital Dermatologists (ADOI)

The Commission will examine all documents and announce the winners during the Conference of Serono Symposia International Foundation: Un nuovo paradigma per il trattamento della psoriasi: l'approccio terapeutico basato sul paziente e le prospettive del trattamento a lungo termine to be held in Rome, Italy from April 18 to 19 2008.

The Commission will evaluate the applications according to impact factor (first criterion) of articles published (or whose publication decision will be final and indisputable.

No fee is imposed to apply.

Equal opportunities will be applied in the evaluation process, without any discrimination of sex, religion or politics.

Application

The application form in electronic format can be downloaded from the Serono Symposia International Foundation website: www.seronosymposia.org.

The application form can also be requested via e-mail, writing to info@seronosymposia.org.

The application (including all documentation attached) must be:

  • Sent by registered mail with return receipt to the Serono Symposia International Foundation, Salita di San Nicola da Tolentino 1 00187 Rome, Italy and must be advanced by fax at 06/420413677
  • All applications must be submitted no later than March 22, 2008.
  • The return receipt will be a reference.

The documentation to be attached to the application is the following:

  • Published article  (indicating the date of publication, the scientific journal, the Journal impact factor);
  • Letter of acceptance and approval of the publication of the manuscript (if it has not yet been published) (also photocopy);
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Statement of residence in Italy;
  • A photocopy of passport, identity card, or driving licence;
  • Indication of telephone number, e-mail address (if available) and postal address where the participant wishes any communications to be sent.

All documents must be in Italian (with the exception of the scientific article).

Award

The authors of the winners articles will receive a prize of Euro 5,000 (five thousand).

The three winners will be announced no later than April 7, 2008, and their names will be published on the website of Serono Symposia International Foundation www.seronosymposia.org.

Each winner will receive an official letter to confirm the prize to the address indicated in the documentation.

In addition, each winner will be invited to participate in submitting his/her publication during the Conference of Serono Symposia International Foundation: Un nuovo paradigma per il trattamento della psoriasi: l'approccio terapeutico basato sul paziente e le prospettive del trattamento a lungo termine to be held in Rome, Italy from April 18 to 19 2008.

The data provided by each applicant will be subject to protection by law 196/2003 on national privacy, and the information will be used only for the purpose of the competition.
